NOIDA – A resident of Sector 20 died July 4, 2026, after allegedly jumping from the second floor of a multi-level car parking facility in Sector 18.
The deceased has been identified as Situ Talwar. Local police arrived at the scene following an emergency alert and transported her to a medical facility, where she was declared dead on arrival.
The incident has drawn attention to the long-term challenges of mental health, as preliminary police findings suggest the woman had been battling depression for two decades.
Timeline of the Incident
Police investigations into the movement of the deceased prior to the event indicate a specific sequence of actions on the evening of July 4:
- Talwar traveled to the Sector 18 multi-level car park via an e-rickshaw.
- She entered the facility and proceeded to the second floor.
- After spending several minutes on the second floor, she allegedly jumped from the structure.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the parking complex and speaking to the e-rickshaw driver and other potential witnesses to corroborate the sequence of events reconstructed by the initial inquiry, according to officers familiar with the case.
Emergency and Medical Response
The incident was reported through Dial 112, the centralized emergency response system used across Uttar Pradesh to coordinate police, fire, and medical services.
Upon receiving the alert, a police team reached the Sector 18 location and immediately shifted the woman to a private hospital in Sector 27. Medical staff at the hospital declared her dead upon arrival.
Following the confirmation of death, police notified the family, including her husband, Mohit Talwar, a retired Wing Commander from the Indian Air Force. Officials said counsellors from the local administration are being made available to the family as part of post-incident support.
Preliminary Investigation
A senior police officer stated that early inquiries into the woman’s medical history revealed she had been suffering from depression for the past 20 years.
Under standard operating procedure for suspected suicides in India, the police must conduct a preliminary inquiry to determine if there was any foul play or abetment. This includes recording statements from close relatives, scrutinising recent call records where necessary, and assessing whether any actions could constitute abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code. As of the current report, the family has not lodged any formal complaint.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The final autopsy report is currently awaited, and officials said any further legal action or administrative recommendations regarding safety protocols at multi-level parking facilities will depend on the medical findings and the outcome of the inquiry.
The case has also renewed calls among mental health professionals and advocacy groups for stronger implementation of India’s mental health framework, including improved access to community-based services envisaged under the country’s national mental health legislation, and closer coordination between law enforcement, health authorities and local administrations in responding to individuals at risk.
