It’s with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, Maureen O’ Neill, (née Gorman), late of Townspark, Longford, formerly of Ardagh, and Sligo, died suddenly on 7th February in Longford Westmeath General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Arrangements and service details

The family has confirmed that formal arrangements will follow local parish and diocesan protocols governing liturgical funeral services.

  • A private resomation has already taken place.
  • A celebration of Maureen’s life will be held at St. Mel’s Cathedral on Saturday, 21st February, at 11:00 am.
  • Family preference: “No flowers, please.” Friends and neighbours are instead being encouraged to consider quiet acts of remembrance in the community, in keeping with the pastoral guidance issued by the Catholic Church in Ireland on funeral observances.

St. Mel’s Cathedral, the seat of the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise and a central civic landmark in Longford town, regularly hosts major public and community services, underscoring the role of parish structures in how local families mark bereavement.
