NEW DELHI – A four-storey building collapsed in North West Delhi’s Rohini Sector 16 on Wednesday evening, triggering a large-scale rescue operation as emergency responders search for individuals feared trapped beneath the debris.
The collapse occurred amid heavy rainfall, which preceded the incident and complicated initial rescue efforts. The event marks a recurring pattern of structural failures in the city, coming just over a month after a similar disaster in South Delhi.
The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received an emergency call regarding the collapse at 4:19 PM. The structure, situated opposite the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) school in Sector 16, crashed down suddenly, prompting an immediate mobilization of specialized equipment.
The response team deployed the following assets to the site:
- Four fire tenders
- Two water bowsers
- One multipurpose vehicle
- One intensive rescue tender
Rescue personnel, including firefighters and police officers, are currently working to locate and evacuate survivors. Visuals from the scene indicate that officials are attempting to communicate with those believed to be trapped by utilizing small cavities formed between collapsed concrete slabs.
