DUBLIN –
RTÉ has initiated a casting search for young individuals interested in relocating to Europe as part of a new television project. The national broadcaster is seeking candidates who are open to making a “dream European move” for the purposes of an upcoming production.
The initiative focuses on identifying participants willing to undergo a significant lifestyle change, blending reality-style storytelling with international relocation. This move targets a younger demographic, as public service broadcasters increasingly implement formats designed to capture Gen Z and millennial audiences who are increasingly mobile within the European Union, where freedom of movement and residence for citizens is guaranteed under Article 21 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
Candidate Selection Criteria
The casting call specifies a search for young people who possess an adventurous spirit and a genuine desire to relocate. While specific age brackets were not detailed in the initial announcement, the phrasing targets those at a transitional stage of life, such as recent graduates or early-career workers weighing options between staying in Ireland and building a life elsewhere in the EU.
Applicants are required to submit their interest through the official RTÉ website. The selection process will identify individuals whose personal narratives and motivations align with the production’s thematic goals regarding European mobility, including how they plan to navigate work, housing and integration in another member state.
Production Objectives
The project aligns with broader industry trends where broadcasters utilize high-stakes personal transitions to drive viewer engagement. By focusing on the logistical and emotional aspects of moving abroad, the production positions itself within the factual entertainment genre while also reflecting lived experiences shaped by EU freedom-of-movement rules and Ireland’s close economic ties to other member states.
As the state broadcaster, RTÉ’s investment in this format indicates a strategic interest in content that reflects current socioeconomic trends, specifically the tendency of young Irish citizens to seek professional or personal opportunities across the EU. It also sits within RTÉ’s public service remit, which is set out in Ireland’s broadcasting law, including sections 113-116 of the Broadcasting Act 2009, and overseen by the media regulator Coimisiún na Meán.
RTÉ has not yet confirmed the final broadcast slot or whether the series will be framed primarily as a competition, an observational documentary, or a hybrid of both. However, producers are understood to be looking for a diverse mix of backgrounds and destinations to illustrate the range of legal, cultural and economic realities facing young movers within the bloc.
Application window is currently open via the RTÉ digital portal, with shortlisted candidates expected to be contacted for further interviews and on-camera screen tests in the coming months.
