BURBANK – Adria Arjona has joined the cast of Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to DC Studios’ Superman.
The addition of Arjona concludes the primary casting phase for the production, reflecting the studio’s strategy of integrating established collaborators into the new DC Universe framework. The film is part of the first chapter of DC Studios’ reset of its superhero slate, a move taking shape under the broader authority and content-oversight powers granted to the studio’s parent company by the U.S. motion picture ratings system administered through the Motion Picture Association.
Production Casting and Selection
The casting follows several rounds of screen tests. James Gunn, the writer-director and DC Studios co-head, has “found the final piece of his Man of Tomorrow casting puzzle,” according to a person familiar with the production.
The professional relationship between Arjona and Gunn dates back to 2017, when they collaborated on The Belko Experiment, a background that is seen internally as reducing creative risk on a franchise title with significant budget and brand implications for Warner Bros. Discovery.
While previous industry reports suggested Arjona was testing for the role of the comic anti-heroine Maxima, the specific character identity has not been officially disclosed. DC Studios has declined to comment on the specific role, underscoring the increasingly tight control studios maintain over plot and character details in high-value intellectual property, and the commercial sensitivity around spoiler-driven leaks in the social media era.
Gunn has previously used social media to address and debunk casting rumors regarding the production, part of a broader trend in which studio heads communicate directly with fans to manage expectations and protect long-term franchise planning.
Ensemble and Recurring Cast
The sequel will see the return of several primary cast members from Superman and the introduction of new characters to the cinematic universe, as DC Studios continues to align film, streaming and licensing strategies around a single, connected continuity. That approach is shaped in part by global market-access and content-distribution rules, alongside national film support policies such as European Union audiovisual regulation, which influence where major studio projects are shot, how they are financed and how quickly they are rolled out across key territories.
The confirmed ensemble includes:
- David Corenswet as Superman
- Nicolas Hoult as Lex Luthor
- Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane
- Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen
- Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher
- Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl
- Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner
- Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific
The production will also feature Lars Eidinger as Brainiac. Aaron Pierre, who is cast as John Stewart in the HBO series Lanterns, is also scheduled to appear, signaling a more coordinated cross-project casting strategy as DC Studios seeks to build audience familiarity with characters across platforms.
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for theatrical release on July 9, 2027.
